Let’s not bury the lead…the PLUMS are the item of the week.
There was not a lot of them so we tried and spread them out to make sure that everyone got to taste them.
It reminds me of a story I heard one time about these groups of people that lived out in the desert. They had formed a few little tribes that operated independently in some ways, but were completely dependent on each other for other things…all of them taking a vow of minimalism.
One day, a person walked into the community and had a cluster of grapes that they left as a gift in exchange for safe passage. Knowing what a prized possession these grapes were, each person in the first community only ate 1 so that they could pass them on to the next community to be able to share in this once-in-a-lifetime flavor. Each community did this and as the grapes made their way around from person to person, group to group, they arrived back at the beginning with still enough for the first group to each have another one. Legend has it that the grapes continued to circulate in this fashion for years.
This is us, is it not?
This is our foodshed and if you are ordering food with us, you are sharing in our bounty. There is not one item that we buy each week from our growers that we don’t hold with the same reverence as those communities held those grapes.
May we all eat, share, and have an abundance left over.
