Friday Five (February 28th)

Lead me not into temptation...oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!
Friday February 28th, 2020
I just got back from taking my 3 boys (ages 12, 8, and 4) to an Ash Wednesday service at the Episcopal church on Kenyon's campus.

We don't usually attend a weekly "service" so it's always fun to watch my children's behaviors in settings like this.

It's a very cool building that feels as if it came right out of a Harry Potter movie and Dumbledore should be the one serving the wafer and wine.

Moses is my 4-year-old and I usually just stare at him and wonder how my heart got on the outside of my body and started walking around and talking.

He does what I do, so we kneeled at the altar and waited for the priest to bring us around a wafer.  We cupped our hands out in front of us and she placed it in our hands and said, "The body of Christ, broken for you."  He checks me out of the corner of his eye to make sure he is doing it right.  (of course, my actual heart is now in my actual throat).

Then, a college student helper comes behind her with the goblet of wine.  I dip my wafer in and she says, "The blood of Christ, given for you."  I then look over at Moses and whisper, "put yours in the wine"...to which he, of course, looks over the edge of the cup and proceeds to toss his entire wafer into the goblet.  (that poor college kid was like, "uh-oh")  I reached into the holy wine and dug it out and handed it to him and he ate it.

Today, Moses reminded me of the message of humanity encountering the divine.  It's sweaty, dirty, tasty, funny, profane, profuse, and profound.

May you encounter the divine today, like a stale wafer floating in holy wine.

Once in a while a video comes across my phone that takes the Ballmer house by storm.  This is one of those.

As if the video was not enough, the comments at the bottom are hilarious!

**Please watch twice as the first time you will no doubt have no idea what is going on.
Best of Comments:

What I Cook For Breakfast Every Sunday
https://cookieandkate.com/easy-gluten-free-oat-waffles/

I know I post this about once every six months but there is literally no recipe that I use more.  I don't hold to a Gluten Free diet but this is one recipe that is GF, and it's absolutely better than every waffle on the planet.

Monthly Goals...
As most of you know already, my wife and I are doing monthly resolutions this year instead of a "New Year's Resolution"

January we ate nothing that was not directly grown in Ohio...which basically meant we ate cabbage for a month...without salt or pepper.
February, I ran 30 miles.
March?? "Meat Free" March!

Still accepting ideas future months...
