Week #5

School this week has us learning about SWEET POTATOES!

First, what it is NOT.

It is NOT
-part of the potato family
-a yam
-a member of the nightshade family

What it IS
-a bindweed
-part of the morning glory family
-tuber
-one of most nutrient dense vegetables with high Vitamin A, C and a great source of antioxidants
-The foliage of the sweet potato can be as a substitute for spinach

I know I sound like a broken record, but remember to NOT BE DECEIVED by how the citrus looks on the outside.  I have been grabbing the worst looking tangerines, lemons, and grapefruits all week, and have yet to cut into one that is not perfect on the inside.
**Not to say there aren’t bad ones, and if there are, just let us know and we will make it right

Here is my “treat yo-self” beverage of the week...Coffee cup, juice from 1/2 lemon, hot water, maple syrup...seems like a very simple mixture, but I think it’s keeping me alive.

We have started to do a thing every couple of weeks that we are unofficially calling our “VIP” list.  The VIP’s are anyone that has ordered over $100 worth of food for the week and I reach out to them and offer them a code for a FREE product...cup of coffee, bandana, trip to Hawaii...just a little thank you.

ANYWAYS, next week we are going to have a really special product to offer the VIPS that is coming from Florida...I’ll leave it at that...if you want a piece of the action, put an order in for $100 and you are in.

This is the FOR REAL LAST WEEK for CHEF MEAGAN (last week I said the same thing and didn't have my facts straight) for a while as she is going off to have a quarantine baby.  Load Up!  Last week the soups sold out before Friday so get your orders in.
We are focusing on Eggs and Cheese products this week.
And of course, a non-dairy alternative...
*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
