Week #28

We have a tradition here at the Yellowbird warehouse.

Whenever the first corn on the cob arrives, we stop what we are doing and we pay homage.  We do this by grabbing an ear, pulling back the husk, and eating the corn raw, right off the cob.
Our new employees usually look at us like we are crazy (which we are).  But, then they see the look of pure bliss that only the sweetest of corn can deliver.

*Luckily, this has never backfired by biting into gross corn

This week you will see some of the first cobs of the year.  Don’t overthink it, you can literally throw the entire thing into the oven and it will be fabulous.

Another rare occurrence that we have this week is a mini box with NO GREENS in it.  There are just so many good fruits out there right now that we didn’t want to turn anything away so we just figured you could take this week to clear out your fridge and catch up on all the greens from previous weeks.

Many of you have followed along with us as we have journeyed through the life of  1 particular plant this year.

Josh and Kendyl from 3 Creeks Produce, have partnered with us this year to grow lots of great stuff for you.  One of those things we decided to track and chronicle the journey from seed to harvest.  This Monday, Leah, our photographer, made her way down to their farm on the south side of Columbus and took some great pics of their team getting these beauties ready for us this week so be sure to check out our social media account for those updates!

We did this because we want you to KNOW.  I mean REALLY KNOW about
-food
-food systems
-food growers

See a theme?  We can’t change the planet until we change the food we eat.

Keep forking with your vote...check that...reverse it...keep voting with your fork.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
