Cherry Bomb!

 

There are not many of them available from our local farms but the ones we could find we grabbed...and for this particular week we grabbed a LOT...enjoy!

 

Ohio Blueberries are ripening fast and furious and we are having them picked, literally as I write this.  They require so much time and labor to pick that it’s almost an around the clock job when they ripen.  If you don’t get them this week, there should be plenty for everyone in the coming weeks.

 

We have always included fruit in our weekly boxes because of how special our Ohio fruit is and we don’t want to have to force anyone to pay extra just to be able to try some.

I talked to a chef yesterday who said that meat prices were up 110%!!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  Not only are we not worried about a meat shortage, we are cutting our prices just to show the world what a sustainable food system is capable of...also, we have a lot of chicken that we want to move out of our freezers.

HERE COME ZUCCHINI and YELLOW SQUASH...get your pans hot and your grills hotter.  These are staple Ohio summer veggies that you will see for a couple months straight so zoodle, half moon, and even throw a FULL MOON in there occasionally.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.

Storage: Store the leaves in a separate container and use within two days. The root bulbs should be stored in the refrigerator's crisper for seven to 10 days.
