Box #21

How about this for pivoting in real time??  ... This morning (Tuesday...the day we go get all the food), we get a call from 2 people that we are counting on getting food from for every box.  Both crops failed because of how hot it is right now.  So we gather around the “water cooler” and have an impromptu, "what should replace this with because it’s too late to reach out to try and get more food??"

Even if we did get ahold of a grower, and even if they did happen to have something in the field that would work, it would take them a day to harvest it and we would have to go out and get it tomorrow...which isn’t possible because we have to make deliveries tomorrow and also pack boxes for the next day which we wouldn’t be able to do because we were out picking the food up that was supposed to be in those boxes, and round and round we go.

In the end, as always, it ends up being fine... just another day in the life of our local food community.

Here are the random things that I want you to know about this week

1.We are including one of our brochures in every box this week so that you can pass it along to a friend or family member.  There is a coupon code that they can use at the bottom.  If they list you as a referral, you BOTH get $10 added to your account to use however you choose.

2.MEAT BUNDLES are up and can be added to your delivery NEXT WEEK!
(Just Click the Pic and it will take you right there)
It's time to put some meat in your freezer and hunker down.

Many of you have asked about WINTER and how it will work this year.

We are still finalizing the details but it will be ready to roll out to everyone in the next week.

UNTIL THEN...just remember that we will continue to deliver each week as always, all the way through the week of Nov 18th (the week before Thanksgiving).  I just ordered some goodies today for that last box where we will give you everything you need to be the star at your “Friends-giving”, “Thanksgiving Day”, or even your “In-Laws who don’t know a turkey from a hole in the ground” dinners.

**Please check out our FAQ, policies, and missed pick up procedures!

Disclaimer: These are the items we have planned for you to get this week! However, due to the nature of... well, nature, these items are subject to change. If we are unable to put a planned item in the box we will do our best to substitute it for a cost comparable item in this box, or in a box in the future. Different size boxes allow for different items, either by type or by quantity.

Honey Crisp Apples

Storage:  The ideal storage temperature is 30 to 35 degrees F. with 90 to 95 percent relative humidity. If you don't have a lot of apples, the refrigerator is a good option. Place them in the crisper drawer in a plastic bag with holes in it or cover the apples with a damp paper towel.

Romanesco Broccoli

Storage: Consume fresh broccoli as soon as you can as it will not keep long. To store, mist the unwashed heads, wrap loosely in damp paper towels, and refrigerate. Use within 2 to 3 days. Do not store broccoli in a sealed container or plastic bag.

Salad Mix

Storage:  After washing your lettuce leaves, spin them dry and place the slightly damp greens in a container. A container is best, but you can use a plastic bag if you keep a corner open (to allow some airflow in). Add a few paper towels to absorb excess moisture and you'll be able to store these greens for seven to 10 days.

Thyme

Storage:  Wrap the herbs loosely in the dampened paper towels and place them in a resealable bag. Seal the bag and refrigerate. This method, which allows the herbs to retain plenty of moisture, will keep your thyme fresh and wilt-free for 3–5 days.
