When I was 21 I had a best friend that taught me about 300 MAJOR life lessons that I still reflect on to this day.
Here is one.
We lived together in a tent out in the middle of the mountains in Montana and shared a car and worked at the same place...which is to say, we were together ALL THE TIME.
One day, as he was driving he was biting his fingernails and making an awful sound and mess that I had previously told him drove me crazy.
I said, "Jess, you know it drives me crazy when you bite your fingernails. Why would you do it if you know that?"
He said, "You must think that you don't do anything that drives me crazy."
YES! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAD THOUGHT. WHAT COULD I POSSIBLY BE DOING THAT WOULD ANNOY ANYONE?!? (that last part sounds the best when read in a miss piggy voice)
I realized maybe for the first time in my life (I'm a slow learner), that there were things that I was doing as a normal part of my everyday habits that drove others crazy.
But do you know what he said next? "It's the things that annoy me most about you that also make me love you the most"
What a jerk...
