I have a LOT of ground to cover so instead of waxing poetic about why I love you so, I am just going to bullet point the crap out of this newsletter

  • Our home deliveries are BLOWING UP!  So, when you sign up just know that you will get a delivery on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for Columbus area folks.  We will let you know at the beginning of each week what day your delivery will be on (all accounts will say Wednesday when you log in- ignore that). Mount Vernon area, Findlay, Delphos, Marion Home Deliveries will continue to be on Friday.
Also, things might arrive “late”. i.e. 11pm  Our people are literally making 80 home deliveries a day off of each truck (that’s a lot).  Feel free to reach out to Erin (erin@yellowbirdfs.com) and find out how close they are though, because we ARE tracking them so we can tell you if they are right next door or 20 stops away.
  •
  • Tour Poster’s THIS WEEK!  This is a long standing tradition at the YB and we almost always have a member do the design work.  This time it’s brought to you by Sarah Schmidt… sarahmaes.com or on instagram @sarahmaeschmidt
  •
  • CBD Gummy Giveaway...the first 400 people to login and add to their cart for next week get a 3-pack “sample” for FREE! (order minimum is still $25 but that includes your box!) My uncle started this company last year and it’s completely organic and 3rd party verified.https://yellowbirdfs.com/product/ziola-heath-cbd-gummy-fruit-chews-sample
  •
  • FRESH FOOD!  - We are entering the time of year where we start to see some FRESH FOOD coming out of the ground.  It will start with Asparagus, Green Onion, and radish’s...move into strawberries...and then never look back as we move through 170+ varieties of OHIO GROWN food over the next 8 months.
  •
  • Have I said THANK YOU for this support of our Ohio growers and producers yet this week??  “THANK YOU!!”

  • With an order increase over the last month, we are starting to run out of some things and we certainly mess up some orders along the way so please stay patient with us as we continue to grow with and for you

  • Referral Policy...we are seeing more and more of you every day being referenced from your friends and family as they sign up.  REMEMBER, if they list you as a reference AND make an order, you BOTH get $10 credit added to your accounts. Some of you have about an entire season’s of food being paid for because of your references!

  • Friday Five...this is a goofy email I send out almost every Friday at 6:45am...if you have signed up for the Yellowbird, you will get this email automatically.  It’s very rarely food related...it’s more of just a way to connect on other levels and probably just my wife reads it, but I like doing it so humor me...or delete it.

  • Our apples are NOT from organic farms...they are from Ohio family farms that we personally know and support, but if you refuse to eat anything that is not completely “organically” grown, these can just be given away...we always want to be completely transparent about stuff like that.

At the end of the day, remember this…

Our current food system is broken.  It has been for decades and this is just a canary in the coal mine, showing us that we MUST do better.

The most common question we get is, “Why did you name the company Yellowbird?”

Urban Dictionary - 1.The term yellow bird represents not only your true love but also love in general. In this sense of the term you shouldn't forget about the yellow bird, or true love, as when you stop believing in love you end up hurting those around you.

In other words, to us, our food and where it comes from must never be forsaken.

Disclaimer: These are the items we have planned for you to get this week! However, due to the nature of... well, nature, these items are subject to change. If we are unable to put a planned item in the box we will do our best to substitute it for a cost comparable item in this box, or in a box in the future. Different size boxes allow for different items, either by type or by quantity.

Apples

Storage: If you don't have a lot of apples, the refrigerator is a good option. Place them in the crisper drawer in an opened container with holes in it or cover the apples with a damp paper towel.

Recipes: Apple Snack

Hydro Lettuce

Storage:   Wrap the lettuce in a dry paper towel and place it in a storage container. You can reuse the container it came in, as long as you wash it first. To maintain the proper temperature and moisture level, store your lettuce in the crisper drawer in your fridge.

Recipe: Spring Rolls

Romaine

Storage:   Store Romaine lettuce unwashed in a container in the refrigerator, or wash the leaves, dry them thoroughly, and refrigerate in a tightly sealed container. Either way, Romaine should last for up to a week.

Recipe: Spicy Grilled Caesar

Ying Yang Mix

Storage:   Wrap the greens in a dry paper towel and place it in a storage container. You can reuse the container it came in, as long as you wash it first. To maintain the proper temperature and moisture level, store your lettuce in the crisper drawer in your fridge.

Recipe: Arugula Pesto

Microgreens

Storage:   Keep microgreens between damp paper towels, and make sure they are cold and covered in a container. Wrapped this way, they'll last in the fridge for about a week. Keep greens covered right up until they hit the plate—this will ensure that they don't wilt or dry out during service.

Top your favorite wraps, soups, salads, pizzas, and more with these nutritional macro flavor micro greens!
