Friends….Lend me your ears!...(so corny
Cobbs in every box this week but you can also add more for next week right here.

SO MANY THINGS TO TALK ABOUT

-Stickers this week are just a fun freebie to use on your laptop, waterbottle, or anyplace you are slappin' stickers these days.  All cred goes to one of our members…@graceeloodoodles  SIDE NOTE:  She sells awesome stickers and doodles so check out her other stuff.

-This is the time of year when egg sales drop off considerably...not sure if humans don’t like eggs when it is hot out or something?  Anyways, please add a dozen to your basket this week and help our egg producers catch up to the production...as you can imagine, a couple of months ago when we were running thin on eggs, all our farmers added new chickens to their flock to help keep up...of course, they all started laying about the time that sales on eggs go down.  You get the picture.

-We have some “crazy” stuff that we bought for our friends in Florida last week that we are going to be putting here and there in the coming weeks.  You might see some things that look “different”.  Bananas are the obvious ones...if they look black and soft, THAT MEANS THEY ARE ACTUALLY PERFECT!.  Don’t go in thinking they will taste like store-bought nana’s.  Get a spoon and eat them right out of the peel...or do what Sarah and I did and scrape them all out and put them in the most perfect banana/chocolate chip muffins you ever made.

Other items you might see...mango's, avocado’s, turmeric, jackfruit (can’t wait to figure out how to fit those in a box), mamey’s, and green coconuts.

-We added a couple of new stops to our “Truck Routes” parking lot pick-ups in Columbus.  On Thursday we end the day in the parking lot of the Universalist Unitarian church in Clintonville from 5:30-6:30pm and on Friday’s we are now in NEW ALBANY at the All Saints Episcopal Church from 5:30-6:30.  If either of those locations are better for you, you can reach out to Erin (erin@yellowbirdfs.com) and have her move you over starting NEXT week!

-Lastly, we have added pickling cukes and a nice easy quick pickling spice to the store so that anyone that wants to try their hand at their own pickles can give it a go.

Disclaimer: These are the items we have planned for you to get this week! However, due to the nature of... well, nature, these items are subject to change. If we are unable to put a planned item in the box we will do our best to substitute it for a cost comparable item in this box, or in a box in the future. Different size boxes allow for different items, either by type or by quantity.

The items in each box vary and no box will include the entire list above. Fulls will have the greatest variety, and bases will have more variety than the minis.

Alfalfa Sprouts

Storage:   Store in the container in the fridge.

Recipe:  Seasonal Eating

Arugula

Storage:   Arugula should be refrigerated and kept dry. Storing the arugula in a resealable container paper towel can help the greens stay dry.

Recipe:  Easy Arugula Pesto

Avocado

Storage:   Store on your counter top. If the avocado yields to firm gentle pressure you know it's ripe and ready-to-eat. Ripe, ready to eat avocados may have a darker color but color can vary so it is best to go by feel as well as color.

Recipe:  Tuna Stuffed Avocado

Bananas

Storage:   Store on your counter.

Recipe:  Coffee Cake Banana Bread

Blackberries

Storage:  Put them in a shallow container and place them in a cool spot or in the refrigerator as soon as you can after picking. Fresh blackberries are very perishable and should be eaten or frozen with two or three days of picking.

Recipes: Blackberry Slab Pie Bars

Blueberries

Storage: Pop your container of blueberries in the fridge—but don't keep them in the crisper drawer, where air doesn't circulate too well.

Recipe: Blueberry Lemon Thyme Vegan Biscuits

Broccoli

Storage:   Consume fresh broccoli as soon as you can as it will not keep long. To store, mist the unwashed heads, wrap loosely in damp paper towels or beeswax wrap, and refrigerate. Use within 2 to 3 days. Do not store broccoli in a sealed container.

Recipe: Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry

Carlton Greens

Storage:  Store greens separately in the crisper section of the fridge to keep them fresh. They should then be used within three days. When preparing Chinese greens for cooking, cut off the base where the stalks join and separate the leaves for washing.

Firecracker Vegan Lettuce Wraps

Cocktail Cucumbers
