Week #7

What a week it’s been!

Hopefully this email finds you with food, warmth, and health.

As you can imagine, when you are in the fresh food industry, bad weather can sure throw a wrench in your plans.  Hopefully (as I type this on Tuesday), everything will have gone off without a hitch throughout the week.

We continue to bring a mix of greens, roots, citrus, and storage crops.  It is such a luxury to walk through the warehouse and look at the gorgeous colors as the food arrives each week.  I am keenly aware that we might literally be a part of the most impactful food system (foodshed) in this part of the country.

Keep eating consciously.  Keep improving the planet by improving what’s on your plate!

As we continue to “pivot” in this strange time, we have decided to implement  some new measures to be able to better serve you, our “shareholders”.

  1.  We have hired some new team members to help fill orders and build boxes.  (This will mean a few more mistakes in the short run as everyone trains, but even better order fulfillment in the long run)

  2. We have purchased an actual inventory system that will allow us to keep track of product dates and quantities.  Outcome:  Less out of stock items, less close dated items, less mistakes in packing!

Continue to keep us posted on all your orders and product quality.  Your satisfaction is paramount as we continue to make this the best and most authentic food experience in Ohio!

Cool Story:  A couple of years ago we began to forge a relationship with the family that owns the properties across from Nationwide Children's Hospital.  The area where Alchemy, The Crest, and The Fitness Loft is at.  They were starting to develop a luxury apartment complex called "The Arbor".  Their thought was to offer a FREE Mini box to their patrons every month, just as part of their rent package.

Skip ahead about a couple years, and we have successfully delivered to them on the first week of each month over 120 boxes each time!  The tenants love it, the management loves it, our growers and producers love it!

If you live in a similar complex, get us connected to your property managers and we will see if we can convince them to let us bring you a FREE box each month as part of your rent!

IT'S NOODLE WEEK:  We've got regular, flavored, gluten-free, egg, ramen, udon, pad thai, and a bunch more shapes than I ever knew existed.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
