Week #30

When we first started this company, we didn’t foresee a couple of the challenges that would face us in that first year.  One of the biggest (literally), were the cantaloupes.

We had not yet started working closely enough with the growers to have a say in what they planted each season so we just bought the normal size of everything they grow.  Cantaloupes, Water melons, butternut squash, cabbage...all TOO DANG BIG to even fit in our cardboard boxes!!

You may have noticed over the past couple of years that we have been able to get our growers to do each of those items mentioned above, but in cute little varieties that can actually fit into the boxes each week.

THUS...

Sugar cube cantaloupes.

“Phenomenal Cosmic Powers...itty bitty living space.”

Or as my mom always says, “We can’t elope, my dad has the car.”

We have gotten a little more organized on our virtual store.

Each week we are now systematically rotating our sales items, our featured items, as well as posting a weekly recipe (the category all the way to the right on the bar below) that has links to all the ingredients for easy shopping.

We try and have this set by about Wednesday each week so that you can begin to fill your cart for the following week’s deliveries.

BUT, we are always updating it as the week goes on.  This time of year we are getting new products in 7 days a week and so please always check back on Saturday and Sunday to see if anything juicy just showed up...last week it was donut peaches, cantaloupes, and bell peppers.

Right now we have 6 pages of produce alone, so if you are not getting enough of something you really like, or you want to begin to preserve some stuff for the winter, head on in and add whatever you want.

Wish you could build your own box?  YOU CAN!  Just put your subscription box on hold and then go into the store and build out your cart with everything that you WANT!  There are no rules that say you HAVE to get the subscription box….as long as you spend a minimum of $25 we will bring you $25 worth of zucchini if that’s all you want!  (that can’t be all you want right?)

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
