Week #39

Last weekend I drove into Columbus and noticed all the orchards and nurseries were advertising for their “fall harvest” parties.

We thought it might be fun to have a little “party” of our own this week so we are bringing you our “Apple Flight”.

Gala, Golden Delicious, Crimson Crisp, Cortland, and Blondee will be finding their way into your boxes.  They will be sold on our store so if you get one that you really like, OR don’t get one that you want try you should be able to add it to your order for the coming weeks.

Headline:  “No Shortage of Gobbles Inside The Yellowbird Foodshed!”

Someone told me last weekend that there is supposed to be a turkey shortage this year.

Just like always, we are not participating in a system that relies on the “market” to determine what we are going to have and not have.

We had our Turkey’s planned and on pasture all year and already have some in our possession.

That being said, there are a limited number.  And just like last year, we also had the majority of the bigger ones halved, so that you would not have to deal with such a big bird.

We will be listing them as fast as we can, so speak now and don’t be left eating SPAM at Thanksgiving.

TOUR POSTER ALERT!!

For those of you that are new to the YB in 2021, each year we have a member of the community design a “tour poster” for everyone.

Yes, EVERY person that gets a box the week that the poster comes out gets a FREE one.  We have done this every year since our inception and then we make them available on the store if you need more.

I know some of you have them ALL and frame them up all over your house.

Make sure you are getting the boxes each week so you don’t miss this year's edition.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
