Week #3

The amount of amazing food that came through our doors this week is astounding.

-New varieties of apples (Granny Smith and Pink Lady)
-Every color of turnip, carrot, and beet you can imagine
-Asian Greens and Brassica’s that are so fresh and nutrient-dense

I sat down to type this and a truck showed up with citrus from Florida.

It’s worth noting that we have been trying to get a truck to deliver to us for 3 weeks. It’s almost
impossible to find an affordable driver that will bring such a small load but alas, we have done
the impossible.

Our partner farms in Florida have delivered oranges, lemons, and even a few strawberries.

Because of when they arrived, not everyone will get all of these products this week, but as you
know, we work tirelessly to make sure everyone gets as much of this goodness as possible over
the course of the seasons.

One final note. We have seen 3 different food producers raise their prices this week. We will
constantly work to keep you informed of these situations. In the necessary cases, we will reflect
the increase in our prices of things you buy from the a-la-carte side, but for now and the
foreseeable future, our best value has always been the mini, base, and full weekly subscription
boxes. Those prices have been $25, $35, and $45 for the past couple of years and we will work
to continue to be able to hold the line on those prices.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
