Week #19

The first crowns are up and out of the ground so you know what time it is!!!

“This is the dawning of the age of asparagus, age of asparagus, assssppparrrraaaaagggggguuss!!”

There’s not quite enough for everyone but trust me, the weather is prime for massive output so over the next couple of weeks you are going to get PLENNNNTY!

ProTip:  Asparagus is easy to overcook…I look at it like I'm just getting it really warm

ProTip#2:  When you are getting a bunch of greens (which everyone is right now), process them ALL at once.  Make a giant salad that has about 6 servings worth of greens in it and just put it away in the fridge when you are full.  This will mean you are 1.  More likely to get it out and eat it again and 2.  Processing all your greens so that you don’t fall behind and end up having to throw some away.

For anyone that is new, and has not joined our closed FB group, check out https://www.facebook.com/groups/YBSeatAtTheTable  I try and keep a pulse on our community here as people shares recipes, questions, pictures, and food observations.

You can also, ALWAYS view the weekly newsletter with box contents at https://www.theyellowbirdtable.com/

Many of you have made some serious referral $$ on our DOUBLE BIRDY program for the month of May.  Remember, anyone that you refer only has to put in 1 order and you BOTH get $20 credit!

Over the next few weeks, I am going to be addressing the “food shortage” talk that many of you have been asking about as you see scary headlines on your news feeds.  Let me give you the CliffsNotes version here though…STICK WITH US!! TOGETHER WE ARE THE FOODSHED

#wearethefoodshed

PS - See below for the actual definition of a foodshed

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
