Each Thursday night, my wife takes a living sourdough "starter", and creates between 15-20 loaves of amazing dough. That dough sits around our kitchen overnight and then she gets up at 5:30am and begins to bake this wondrous bread.
I've long been fascinated by the process of which she essentially has another child (we have 4 human children already) that breathes, needs fed, and can take a turn for the worse if not observed and treated. So over Thanksgiving, she entrusted me with some "starter" to feed for myself. I have a need to understand how things work so I wanted to do some bread myself.
It's about a 24-30 hour process from when you first "feed" your starter, to when you pull loaves of bread from the oven. I've tried it twice now and have basically just created a crust that is covering a flat lump of uncooked or un-risen dough...I honestly don't know which.
She secretly likes that I can't make it work, and if I'm being honest...I like, that she likes that. After 16 years of marriage, it is not easy to convey the "feel-goods", the compliments, the appreciation that I have for what she does each and every day. I'm thinking about failing at making sourdough bread on the weekly in order to be able to show her just how awesome I think she really is.
On another note, here is your Friday 5!

The show with hot questions and even hotter wings. Watch Sean interview celebrities as they burn their tastebuds.

Movie
Nacho Libre
I am 13 years late to this party, but just grateful that I finally showed up. So much of my life was still a mystery that only Nacho had the answers to.

Methane Studios
I could scroll through this art for days. They were really the reason that we started doing Yellowbird "tour posters". This is my favorite poster they have ever done. If anyone is looking to buy me a Christmas gift, I think that it is retailing for like $2500 right now.

Album
Hootie and the Blowfish Imperfect Circle
I was not expecting much here. It only took 1 listen to remember that these guys were actually decent and it turns out, they still got it! In my opinion, they should have launched this in the spring to create a nice "summer" album as I am full time Christmas music right now, but what do I know about record sales?
