Week #45

Can You Believe It?!?!

Next week is the week before Thanksgiving!!  (which also happens to be my favorite holiday)

I brainstormed out my holiday food overview last night and it looks something like this.

-mashed potatoes
-sweet potato casserole
-turkey
-ham
-corn
-bread/rolls
-gravy
-carrot cake
-stuffing
-pickled beets
-green beans
-pie
-ice cream
-salad
-deviled eggs

Did I remember carrot cake?...Ok good

Please use our local farms and vendors as much as you can this holiday season...they are getting ready to hit the cold months and every dollar we can spend with them helps pay the bills to end this season and buy the seeds and materials needed for next season!!

Lastly, this is the time of year where we really like to push our “Donate-A-Box” program.

These boxes go to multiple food drives as well as “Hot Meals” programs that are sorely lacking in nutrient-dense foods like what we provide.  Every donate a box order you can spare helps and I am proud when I see our number each week of people that are willing to donate!

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
