Week #44

Food, Fellowship, Macy’s Parades, and Turkey Trots.

I must talk to you about Thanksgiving.

This year we are hosting close to 20 people...not just for the day, but for the WEEK!

Last year on the day after Thanksgiving we started construction on our new house.  On that day I said to my wife’s family (who live in Texas), “Next Year At The Ballmer’s House!”.  They took me seriously.

This year, we are indeed in our new house, albeit not completely finished, and we are about to embark on a Grizwald style family Thanksgiving...and I couldn’t be happier.

I will literally go through a case of butter (that’s 24 sticks), a case of eggs (that’s 15 dozen), a 30 pound turkey, and a gallon of heavy cream...and that’s just for my carrot cake!!

Seriously though...statistically, if you are a yellowbird’er, there is an 87% chance you are hosting your family's Thanksgiving.  (no actual studies have been done)

If this is the case, don’t buy your ingredients from the big piles of commercialized/industrialized/homogenized ingredients at the store that all taste like things that are impersonating your grandma’s original recipe.  We have done the work of finding the actual things from your grandma’s original recipe...I promise the flavors will astound.

Hit up our “Thanksgiving Essentials” tab and start to load up your fridge, freezer, and pantry with everything that you will be needing...and then double it for good measure.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
