Week #11

HAPPY ST. PADDY's DAY!!  White potatoes are featured this week.

Believe it or not, we are getting to the end of our storage crops (I say that sarcastically, as of course, we have all been eating these items for what feels like an eternal winter) like potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, and apples.

WHAT THAT MEANS IS….wait for it….SPRING is right around the corner.  There are three items that we are always looking for to signify that SPRING is actually here and this week we heard reports that one of them has been sighted.

Ramp’s...any idea what the other 2 are??

There are a lot of announcements this week so I am going to get right into it.

Zoom link - https://zoom.us/j/98924578683?pwd=M3lyRkJNRU1HaUZ2RHovcHhCWkVJdz09

Password - 243556

This will be held on Thursday, March 18th at 7pm

I will get on and talk for about 20-25 minutes on the current state of affairs with your foodshed and then we can take Q and A for 30 minutes or until everyone's questions have been answered.

I am not super savvy at running ZOOM stuff so this will be a hoot for all involved!

POULTRY BLOWOUT SALE

EVERY piece of poultry we have is on sale this week ONLY!

Stock up, load up, anti up (that one barely makes sense), and seven up (that one doesn’t make sense).  We are clearing freezers.

This is not just any chicken...this is chicken that is raised on GRASS and SUN.  Truly pastured meat means moving each bird EVERY DAY to fresh green grass and feeding them ALL NON-GMO feed.

There are a lot of companies trying to pretend like this is how they are raising chickens, but I can promise you there are very few people that can grow this level of quality...Sweet Grass Dairy is one of the best and has been our poultry partner since its inception.

Over the next couple of weeks, you will see some of our last storage crops coming to you in "processed" forms...cubes, slaws, root mixes etc.

We have partnered with a new group up near Cleveland that is able to do this work for us.  If you have any requests in this area give us a reply...I am thinking as the year goes on and we have the products we could do some fajita mixes, stew mixes?!?

Lastly, we LOVED what you did with your Pi Day boxes and all the mentions you gave us over the last week.  What a fun way to see inside your homes and your meals using YB ingredients.  Always remember that it is the produce that our growers are growing that separates what we (the YB members) are doing as a foodshed from what others are pretending to do.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
