Week #34

This year continues to yield an enormous amount of amazing fruit.

Each week I continue to be surprised by the peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, and now apples that are pouring in.

In years past, we have had very small harvests of all of these and we would have to spread them out thin so that everyone could try at least one.  This year, it’s fill the boxes to the brim with amazing fruit!

That being said, I want to apologize if you get a soft peach, cantaloupe, or anything else for that matter.  Obviously, being in the FRESHEST food business, we are constantly teetering on the ripe vs. underripe threshold.

As always, if you email erin@yellowbirdfs.com with anything that isn’t quite right, we will get you taken care of.

Let me remind you of a couple things…

When you login to your account there is a “favorites” tab on your top category line.  Every item that we carry has a little heart in the upper left corner that you can click to add it to your “favorites” list.  This cuts down on the time you need to search for stuff each week.
The #1 way that we gain new customers is through word of mouth...namely YOUR mouth.  Remind each person that you tell about YB, that if they sign up and list you as the reference, you BOTH get $10 credit to your account.  (that’s milk and eggs taken care of right there)
You do NOT have to get JUST a subscription box each week.  As long as your order totals $25 (the cost of the mini box), you can buy whatever food you want.

Sick of what we are picking for you each week?  Cancel the “subscription” and just fill your cart up with whatever it is you want.

Love what we are picking but want more of certain things?  Get both...keep the subscription box and add anything else you want...we literally have customers that order 5 portions of the stuff they love...you know who you are!

Lastly, I want to let you behind the curtain.  We are anticipating more “squeezes” in the conventional food supply chain in the coming months.  In preparation, we are buying plenty of everything that we can find...produce, dairy, meat, shelf stable stuff etc.

PLEASE, continue to support our farms and producers.  We try to highlight these men and women as much as possible so that you have a sense of the difference you are making in people’s lives.

Your Yellowbird Team Loves You!

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
