Week #36

This is the time of year when you should be experiencing a bunch of things that make you happy.

Kids are back in school...maybe you yourself are back in school.
Nights are cooler.
College Football.
It's getting darker, faster.
Maybe a leaf on your favorite tree is turning orange?
And APPLES.

We are starting to see many varieties available and that means it's time to think about getting to your nearest orchard and getting in line for an apple donut.

Is it me or does it seem like the day you choose to go, it ends up being like 92 degrees?  Good news is, there will be lots of bees buzzing around drunk...literally, they get drunk on the apples that are fermenting...an orchard owner told me that once so I can't really prove that's true.

Anyways, get outside and get to a farm this farm...even if it's just to get lost in a corn maze.

Here are a few of our early season favorites if you want to "Add To Delivery" for next week.

*A foodshed is the geographic region that produces the food for a particular population. The term is used to describe a region of food flows, from the area where it is produced, to the place where it is consumed, including: the land it grows on, the route it travels, the markets it passes through, and the tables it ends up on. "Foodshed" is described as a "socio-geographic space: human activity embedded in the natural integument of a particular place."[1] A foodshed is analogous to a watershed in that foodsheds outline the flow of food feeding a particular population, whereas watersheds outline the flow of water draining to a particular location. Through drawing from the conceptual ideas of the watershed, foodsheds are perceived as hybrid social and natural constructs.
